Jay Mangrum, EA, CTC
Assurance Tax Advisors
Spring, Texas 77379
Jay Mangrum, a native Texan, grew up learning accounting and taxation from his parents, a CPA and tax attorney; he believes that it is our civic duty to pay our taxes, but that we shouldn’t have to leave a tip. Upon high school graduation, Jay left Houston to join the United States Navy and attend the elite U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Power School. After graduation, Jay went on to serve in the Navy’s submarine service. In fact, it was in the Navy that Jay began preparing taxes for pay. Well, sort of – compensation for his tax work usually came in the form of home-cooked dinners from fellow shipmates.
Jay received his Bachelor’s in Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY. He is aFellow of the National Tax Practice Institute (NTPI), and is an Enrolled Agent. As an Enrolled Agent (EA), he is licensed to practice and represent taxpayers before the IRS in all 50 states. He is also a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor and has actually performed services for QuickBooks as a paid consultant to help improve their products. Additionally, Jay is a member of several professional industry associations including the NATP, the NAEA, the TXSEA, and the AIPB.
When he is not at the office, he can be found speaking at various venues throughout the Houston area on topics involving tax planning and tax strategy, or staying current on changes in tax law by studying the tax codes and taking additional Professional Education courses in Taxation, Business, and Ethics.
Away from the office, Jay volunteers for the Boy Scouts of America as a merit badge counselor in the area of personal management. He also volunteers as a financial auditor for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and is a member of the Harris County Community Emergency Response Team.
